The Church of France is arguably the most politically powerful organization next to the Crown itself. It is said that the King often does not make final decisions without first consulting with the Cardinal, his closest advisor. Further, grand masses are often as much about social advancement as they are about faith, and are a place to mingle amongst high clergy, nobility, and even royalty.
